Fostering Voices Podcast

Jan 30, 2018

Welcome to Episode 1

This episode is a long time coming. I kept waiting for the right time, the right place, the right mind frame to do this. I wanted my website to be ready, my iTunes settings to be set, and so on and so forth. And alas, I downloaded an app on my phone, and started recording in my guest room, on the floor, holding my 5 month old foster babe in my arms. The whole time. And she did not cry or make a peep! Also, please note that I recorded this at about 9pm, so I have my after-9pm voice. As in, the voice that often lulls my husband to sleep every night. So, you are definitely going to need a cup of caffeine before you start this. And maybe don't operate heavy machinery while listening. But I hope you enjoy it, and I am very very grateful that you are here to join me on this journey of providing a safe place for the many voices in the foster care and adoption communities.

In this episode, I make reference to:

  • Feed my Starving Children, an organization that I LOVE. Apparently they are also located in Illinois and Minnesota, as well as here in Arizona. You can go with your family, with a giant group, and pack dry food that will be shipped to different disaster, and impoverished areas.
  • Foster Arizona is one of my favorite foster organizations, run by the incredible Kim Vehon. I love her. And her mission to educate, encourage, and empower others to positively impact the lives of kids in foster care.
  • PSMAPP stands for 'Partnering for Safety and Permanence - Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting.' I mentioned it on the podcast and said I couldn't remember what it stood for. Turns out I never knew what it stands for. And I will definitely not remember this later.

Thanks for tuning in friends!

Please feel free to share this episode, or leave a comment with any questions or concerns you may have. And if you feel so inclined, please leave me a review on iTunes! Til next week. Peace out.
